PPA Competition Results are in!

reception-blogOk, All you folks who went to Cassandra’s wedding , you can stop laughing, you were there, you saw this!  Sometimes it’s funny you shoot something but don’t even see it till you are editing images, that’s how it was with the image above,  I did not see this at the wedding and then when I was editing I laughed, and then fell in love with it. I am here proud to tell you it just made the PPA Showcase Book for 2009! Thanks guys for being so silly-you rock and you helped me score-IN A BIG WAY.

So here’s the deal and a little about PPA (Professional Photographers of America) print competition. Each year professional photographers are only allowed to enter four prints that represent their work. If they score above an 80, (which is extremely hard to do) they make the general collection. Then all prints are evaluated. The top honor is the loan collection book. Which I have previous prints recieve this honor-Leland Dodson, The Centurion, and my Tybee Island Boats. Right below the loan collection book is a book called the Showcase book, I had a print make this about two years ago, it was called the Last Glance. And now again, the print above-Got It!

Now the points, you recieve from print competition help you become a Master Photographer. I had hoped this would be my year. I was three points away, now I am two. Well, you might think I’m complaining, I’m not. Two major things happened this last year, I started my own company and my hard drive crashed. Many of you remember both of these events. Anyway, I can unequivably tell you I am a better photographer today than I have ever been. Running my own company has changed everything about me, and my style. I love it! And would not change it for missed print merits. And how did my hard drive crash effect my competition images…I cry when I think of the work I did for Duckworth’s this past year that was lost on the drive, it surely would have been a PPA Loan Print…Oh well, there is always next year. And I have learned my lesson, back up, back up, back up.

So where does all this lead me.see for yourself..take time go to the PPA website, look up the names of photographers in your area. Who scored, congratulate them, they deserve it. PPA judging is hard and it is not for amatuers. I believe it is for photographers who truly want to make their work better and become better. That is why I do it. I love it, although I wish some of my other prints would have hung, I will wait…patience patience. Do I look like a turtle? Moving on…
